But these are the ones sown on good ground, those who hear the word, accept it, and bear fruit: some thirtyfold, some sixty, and some a…hundred. Mark 4:20 ¶ Mark 4 is a foundational teaching on how the Kingdom grows within us. This chapter highlights key Kingdom-pictures: soil, seeds, and birds. ¶ The birds in this passage, as in all of Scripture, are a type of heavenly beings. In Mark 4:4 and 4:15 the birds are demonic in nature and I believe that in Mark 4:32 the birds are angelic. This certainly fits with the raven and the dove found in the third floor of Noah’s ark.

Identity — Creating a strong inner world

I have discovered that the establishment of my identity is critical to the structure and success of my inner world. A lack of true identity…make us incredibly vulnerable in life and creates an environment where we continually succumb to external pressures. ¶ If my inner world is not secure then I will live my life driven by external pressure and not led by internal revelation. I will easily fall apart because my inner world cannot withstand the forces coming against me from the outside. ¶ Let me illustrate this by showing you how a false identity distorted reality and caused inner turmoil in the life of the disciple Thomas.
